Biographical History

Dr. Cohen began his career in the atomic field at Columbia University in 1937. In 1940 he was named director of the Theoretical Division of the Manhattan Project at Columbia. Dr. Cohen served as a physicist and advisor on atomic energy matters for the Standard Oil Development Company. He was also technical director of the H.K. Ferguson Company which constructed the Brookhaven reactor, synchrocuylotron, and radioactive laboratories. In 1952 he founded the Walter Kidde Nuclear Laboratories. Dr. Cohen joined the General Electric Company in 1955 and held various positions with GE and was eventually appointed Chief Scientist in 1973.
