Robert Wilson (1838-1924) was a physician who served as a surgeon in the C.S.A. Army during the Civil War and afterwards became an Episcopal minister. He was born in Charleston, S.C., the son of James Mazyck Wilson (1814-1887) and Ann Isabel Gibbes Wilson. His second wife was Ann Jane Shand. His son, Robert Wilson, Jr. (1867-1946), was a distinguished physician and educator.
Physician from Charleston, S.C.; graduated, 1859, Medical College of the State of South Carolina; awarded Doctorate of Divinity in 1883 by Washington College (Chestertown, Maryland); during Civil War, served as assistant surgeon at Wayside Hospital (Columbia, S.C.) 1862-1864; ordained as an Episcopal priest, July 1866; served as Rector of St. Paul's Parish (Kent county, Md.), and Christ Church (Easton, Md.), prior to 1884. Rector of St. Luke's parish, S.C. beginning in 1884. Elected president of the Charleston Library Society, June 1898. Son of James Mazyek Wilson and Ann Isabel Gibbes. Husband of Mary Susan Gibbes (d. 1860) and Ann Jane Shand, the daughter of Peter Johnson Shand (1800-1886). Father of Mary Wilson Ball and Robert Wilson (b. 1867).
