Benjamin Clarke was a clock maker in Philadelphia, Penn. from 1791-1848.
Resident of Malone, N.Y.
Epithet: son of S Clark, annotator of the Bible
Benjamin Clark settled in Malone, NY in 1815. He had three sons and one daughter; his sons names were Samuel S., Benjamin W. and Charles. Clarkwas the first judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1825-1828. In 1819 he was appointed to a building committee to raise funds to build a fireproof clerks office. He also served as Superintendent of the Poor in 1830. From approximately 1826-1851 he and Jacob Wead were one of the principal merchants in Malone owning Clark & Wead, which after Wead's retirement became Benjamin Clark & Sons. Clark also served as trustee in 1831 for Franklin Academy, and was a mortgagor fro 1846-1852 in order to keep the school active. He served as director, president and treasurer of the Franklin County Mutual Insurance Company during the late 1830's.
