Biographical History

Lurton Blassingame (1904-1988) is one of the earliest and most respected publishing agents. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended Columbia where he wrote his masters thesis on the history of pulp fiction. His first notable job was as a film writer in Hollywood. In 1937 he founded the American Library Foundation with William Allen. He wrote numerous articles for Writer's Digest, giving advice on the fiction markets during the era when pulp literature was popular, formed a public relations firm named Houston Branch Associates which later merged with Eleanor Wood's Spectrum Literary Agency in 1978.

The Lurton Blassingame Literary Agency was formed by American author and literary agent Lurton Blassingame (1904-1988), who was an expert on American pulp fiction and an author for Writer's digest. Blassingame founded the American Library Foundation with William Allen in 1937. Later he formed a public relations firm named Houston Branch Associates, which merged with Eleanor Wood's Spectrum Literary Agency in 1978.
