Arthur Adams was born 12 May 1881 in Pleasantville, N.J., the son of James R. and Marietta (English) Adams. He attended public schools in Ocean City, N.J. Educator, genealogist, chaplain, librarian, author and historian are some of the titles that describe Dr. Arthur Adams' illustrious career. Dr. Adams received a Ph. D in English from Yale University in 1905. He attended Berkeley Divinity in Middletown, Conn. and later Philadelphia Divinity School. He was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church. Dr. Adams spent most of his career as an English professor at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. He also served as Examining Chaplin for the Diocese of Connecticut. In 1910 he married Esther Guerin Steelman. Dr. Adams was also a member of numerous genealogical and historical societies including the New England Historic Genealogical Society, New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, and the American Historical Association to name but a few. In 1951, D. Adams retired from Trinity College and moved to Boston, Mass. where he joined the staff of the New England Historic Genealogical Society as librarian and editor of the Register. Dr. Adams pased away on 21 June 1960 at the age of seventy nine.
