Biographical History
Army officer, justice of the peace, and locomotive engineer, of Monroeville, Ohio; engineer with Bellefontaine & Indianapolis Railroad both before and after the Civil War; became captain in the 57th Ohio Volunteers, participating in several major military campaigns; wounded during the Battle of Atlanta and spent the remainder of the war in Confederate prisons. After the war returned to Galion, Ohio, returning to work on the railroad and marrying Amanda J. Davis; then removed to Monroeville, Ohio where became agent (1866-1868) for Merchant's Union Express Company and was appointed assistant assessor for Monroeville distilleries; prospered as a grain and seed dealer in Monroeville. Also became justice of the peace in Huron County and assisted veterans in obtaining their pensions.
