Biographical History

J. Knox Corbett followed his brothers, William and Henry, to Tucson in 1881. He was Postmaster and Mayor, and established J. Knox Corbett Lumber Company. His son, Hiram S. Corbett later took over the company. Hiram was an amateur golfer in the 1920s and 1930s. He organized the first Tucson Open golf tournament in 1950. He was instrumental in bringing professional baseball to Tucson and "Hi Corbett Field" was named in his honor. He was active in the Republican Party and served in the State Senate from 1953 to 1964.
