Biographical History
Independent conservative Protestant church; founded by Dwight L. Moody in Chicago, 1864; one of the leading churches of Chicago and of Fundamentalism-Evangelicalism in the U.S.; originally called the Illinois Street Church, 1864-1871; after the building burned in the Chicago Fire, the congregation built a new structure at Chicago Avenue, which gave the church its name until it was renamed the Moody Church in 1900.
