Biographical History
Luise Mühlbach (1814-1873), a German novelist, was the pen name of Clara Mundt. She wrote more than fifty novels, chiefly historical romances that became quite popular in her native Germany and overseas in England and America. She was a prominent advocate of women's suffrage and actively participated in several reform movements. Her husband, Theodore Mundt, was for some years a teacher at the University of Berlin, and later became a professor of general history and literature in Breslau. Clara Mundt's novels brought her a small fortune that she used to build a handsome home in Berlin, which became the meeting place of literary and social leaders.
