Biographical History
Holy Trinity has its roots in St. John’s Lutheran Church, which was started by the Iowa Synod in September, 1890. The group met in a Congregational church until 1893 when a church was erected at 9th and Laurel. The congregation was formally organized in 1894 as a German language group. In 1907 St. John’s was taken over by the Joint Synod of Ohio and served by pastors from Victoria until 1915, when the center of the parish was switched to Port Angeles. In the 1920s St. John’s was dissolved and Holy Trinity established. The Ohio Synod supported Holy Trinity as a mission congregation and sent a full-time pastor. A new sanctuary and parish unit at 28th and Oak was dedicated December 13, 1936. The congregation continued to grow and larger facilities were needed. The present church plant at Chase and Lopez was dedicated February 10, 1957.
