Biographical History

Daniel A. Lord was born on April 23, 1888, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Loyola University in Chicago in 1909, and immediately upon graduation he entered the Society of Jesus at St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Missouri. He received a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from Saint Louis University and was ordained a priest in 1923. In 1926, Father Lord became national director of the Sodality of Our Lady, serving as editor of its publication, The Queen's Work. He was responsible for the publishing operation of the Sodality, also known as The Queen's Work. Lord also founded the Summer School of Catholic Action in 1931 in an effort to train lay people to perform their share of the work of the Church. Thousands attended these sessions. Hoping that the Catholic faith would be the basis of a solution to the problems of the modern world, Lord authored many pamphlets on matters of general human concern. Millions of these booklets, as well as of Lord's works for children, have been printed. Lord was also a composer, playwright, and producer. He was especially interested in civic shows of a spectacular nature. He authored more than 500 pamphlets, plays, and songs. Throughout his life, Lord's main interest was the welfare and spiritual growth of young people. He died of cancer on January 15, 1955.
