Biographical History

The de Caradeuc family, formerly of Brittany, France, fled Santo Domingo during the 1792 slave insurrection, settling in South Carolina. General Jean Baptiste de Caradeuc (1742-1810) served as the General and Commander in Chief of Santo Domingo, and held the title of Comte. The general settled in St. Tomas Parish, South Carolina, where he died in 1810. His grandson, Jean Jacques Achille de Caradeuc (b. 1861), known as James Achille de Caradeuc, resided in Charleston. James Achille married Elisabeth Torre; their son, Saint-Julien Raoul de Caradeux (b. 1854) married Sarah Waring. They had two children, Saint-Julien Raoul de Caradeuc II (b. 1884) and James Achille de Caradeuc II (b. 1880).
