Biographical History
Edward Clymer, a descendant of Declaration of Independence signer George Clymer, was a native of Berks County, Pennsylvania.
George B. Chittenden was a topographer with the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, who worked on surveys in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Mount Chittenden in Yellowstone Park was named for him by Henry Gannett of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1878.
Dr. Frederic M. Endlich, a naturalist, geologist, and mining engineer, held a Doctor of Natural Sciences degree from the University of Tùˆbingen in Germany. He specialized in mineralogy and studied geology throughout New Mexico, California, and Arizona. He committed suicide in Tucson in 1899.
