Biographical History

Born June 4, 1915, Cicero, IL, and died February 15, 1985, Chicago, IL. Professor of Theology, author. Francis L. Filas, S.J., joined the Society of Jesus in 1932 at the age of seventeen. He was ordained in 1945. He received his B.A. and M.A. in philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and his Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Bellarmin Pontifical University in West Baden Springs, IN. Filas was an instructor of math, religion, and music at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, OH, and of math, English, Latin, and music at University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. His documentary "Shroud of Turin" aired regularly on Chicago televsion on Good Friday from 1951 to 1974. Francis L. Filas, S.J., passed away on February 15, 1985, at Loyola University Chicago.
