Biographical History

Willis Vance Daugherty ("Tim") was born in Kansas in June 1897, the son of James V. (1857-1908) and Louella Daugherty (1870-1942). In the fall of 1917, he entered Harvard University, where he remained until June 1918, when he joined the United States Naval Air Corps. He trained as a pilot at the naval air station in Key West, Florida, between August 1918 and September 1918 and then transferred to Pensacola, where he was promoted to ensign on December 21, 1918. After being discharged in February 1919, he returned to Harvard, graduating in the spring of 1920. He and his wife, Helen Sawyer (1901-1990), lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Oneida, New York. Willis V. Daugherty died in 1984.
