Biographical History
Vascular surgeon and author Geza de Takats, 1982-1985, received both his medical degree in 1915 and his surgical degree in 1918, from the University of Budapest. De Takats moved to Chicago in 1925 and established the first vascular disease clinic at Northwestern University Medical School, which he headed until 1935. He served as chief of the vascular disease clinic at the University of Illinois until 1960. He was a member of the surgical staff of Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital from 1958-1975. De Takats is considered by some to be the father of vascular surgery in Chicago. In addition to authoring many books and over 250 papers, de Takats authored several privately published books and short stories. The Geza de Takats Papers, 1926-1980s, include biographical information, writings, awards and certificates, and pictures. Biographical information includes biographies of Geza de Takats. Writings include medical articles, mostly related to vascular surgery, and narrative short stories written by de Takats.
