Biographical History
Dr. Kenealy studied law at Dublin and was called to the English Bar in 1847. He was leading council in the Tichborne claim which became the longest case on record. His conduct during and after the trial brought him before a professional tribunal and he was eventually debarred. He was elected as representative for Stoke on 14 Feb. 1875 and took his seat on the 18th. He moved for a Royal Commission into the conduct of the Tichborne trial on the 23rd and was defeated 433 votes to 1. He wrote an eight volume foilo of a nine volume work on the Toichborne trials before his defeat at the 1880 elections and subsequent death.
Edward Vaughan Hyde Kenealy (1819-1880) was an Irish linguist, author, and barrister.
The collection consists of letters to Kenealy written mostly between 1840-1845 by literary men involved with English periodicals. Much of the correspondence deals with collecting anecdotal material for Kenealy's short biography of William Maginn. There are also many Kenealy letters and printed material in the collection.
