Biographical History

Irine Fokine was born in Vologda, Russia, daughter of the famed ballerina Alexandra Fedorova-Fokine and niece of the choreographer Michel Fokine. She studied ballet in Riga, Latvia but moved to the United States in 1937. She danced professionally until her marriage, moving, in 1948, to Ridgewood, N.J., where she opened her ballet studio. In 1956, she formed the Irine Fokine Ballet Company which performed over fifty original choreographies by Fokine. She also choreographed for the Irine Fokine's Ballet for Children Company.
