Biographical History

Anthony Bimba (b. 1894) was born in Užusieniai, Lithuania. After coming to the United States, Bimba, a journalist, was also active in politics. He was a member of the left-wing of the Lithuanian American Socialists, and participated in the formation of the Lithuanian Communist League of America which in 1919 joined the Communist Party of America. Bimba became editor of Laisvė (Liberty) in 1924 and remained at that post until 1973. In 1926, he was tried and acquitted in a famous trial in Brockton, Massachusetts.
