Biographical History

(For history of the Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA), see OCLC #38922091.) LCUSA's Division of Public Relations' Office of Public Affairs was established in Washington, D.C. in 1967 at the Council's founding. In 1973, this Office, renamed and reorganized as the Office of Public Affairs and Governmental Relations became a separate unit under the Council. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Office lobbied Congress concerning specific issues, conducted studies, and coordinated the advocacy efforts of the LCUSA divisions and offices that involved contact with the government. In 1977, the Office was reorganized as the Office for Governmental Affairs. The LCUSA was terminated in 1987 at the founding of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
