Douglas Gorsline was born May 24, 1913, in Rochester, NY, and died June 25(some say 26th), 1985, in Dijon, France. He followed a career as artist, illustrator, and writer. He received numerous awards for his work, and was the first American artist to receive an invitation from the People's Republic of China to visit that country and paint whatever he wished.
