Biographical History

Originally built by Todd and Kaiser, the yards first had eight ways, later increased to 11 to meet the demand for Liberty and Victory ships.

On December 31, 1941 they launched the Star of Oregon, one of the first two Liberty ships of the war. At the peak of World War II production, Oregon Ship had over 35,000 employees, nearly a third of them women. In 1941 Henry J. Kaiser became sole owner of the yards. When the war ended, the yard was closed and sold.

From the description of Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation photographic collection [graphic], circa 1942-1945. (Oregon Historical Society Research Library). WorldCat record id: 775602437
