Biographical History

James Morse Dunning, 1904-1991, AB, 1926, Harvard University; DDS, 1930, Columbia University; MPH, 1947, Harvard University; was dean of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine from 1947 to 1952, and was a founder of Harvard School of Dental Medicine's dental public health program. Dunning was Professor of Ecological Dentistry from 1965 until his retirement in 1972. He expanded dental care at the Harvard University Health Service to create a teaching center for Harvard School of Dental Medicine students, and in 1968 helped lead a successful campaign to repeal a Massachusetts law requiring local referendums when levels of fluorides in drinking water were to be increased.
