Biographical History
Kent G. Dedrick was born in Watsonville, California in 1923. He earned a B.A. degree in Chemistry from San Jose State College, and an M.A. in physical sciences and a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University. He worked at the W.W. Hansen Laboratories of Physics, the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, and the Stanford Research Institute. From 1976 to 1992 he worked for the California State Lands Commission. He played a key role in the movement to stop the filling of San Francisco Bay. His activism helped lead to the creation of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and the passage of the landmark California Coastal Zone Conservation Act, 1972. Dedrick died on July 17, 2004.
