Biographical History
The Minnesota World Affairs Center was founded at the University of Minnesota in 1950 as a response to a perceived need to improve the knowledge of U.S. foreign policy and world affairs. The center served as a clearing house for foreign policy information and offered lectures, conferences, seminars, pamphlets, and other publications. The center was not political, and it did not take a stance on any issue, but allowed people to be aware of each position. William C. Rogers was director of the center from its inception until 1984. The Minnesota World Affairs Center was administered by the University's Continuing Education and Extension division and partnered with other educational organizations to carry out its mission. In 1984, under threat of elimination because of budget cuts, the center merged with the Minnesota International Center.
