Biographical History
Poet.
Mormon living in Cedar City, Utah.
Edwin Charles Cox was born in the village of Dean in Somerset County, England in 1838 to Abraham Cocks and Frances Beard. Until the age of 18 he worked for a famliy who owned a local estate, thereafter he joined his brother Samuel in South Wales who was working at the iron mills of Rhymney. After a few years Edwin and his brother moved to Ebbuvale where Samuel would find lodging with some Mormon missionaries. This was their first contact with Mormons, and subsequently Edwin, though raised as an Episcopalian, converted to Mormonism and was baptized into the church in June of 1857. He served as a missionary in England and then immigrated to Utah, where he settled in Cedar City. In 1867 he married Elizabeth Mary Reid and had nine children. After her death in 1896 he married Julian Ann Burton in 1898.
