Biographical History

W. Randolph Burgess (1889-1978) was an economist and diplomat, who worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the National City Bank of New York before going into government service. As deputy to the secretary of the treasury and later undersecretary during the Eisenhower administration, he played an important part in formulating America's foreign and domestic economic policies. From 1957 to 1961 Burgess was U.S. ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and also served as U.S. representative to the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC).
