Biographical History
James Robert Williams (1850-1923) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois (1889-1895, 1899-1905), a practicing lawyer, Master in Chancery, county judge of White County and was nominee for presidential elector on the Democratic ticket of Cleveland and Thurman in 1888. Williams was then elected as a Democrat to the 51st Congress in a special election to fill a vacancy left by the death of Richard W. Townsend. After his retirement Williams continued to practice law until his death on November 8, 1923, in Loma Linda, California.
