Biographical History

William Buchan Inglis , was born in 1901 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and studied at the University of Glasgow , graduating MA in 1922, MEd in 1927, and PhD in 1930 . From 1929-1940 he held the post of Lecturer in Education at the University of Glasgow, where he worked closely with Dr William Boyd , who set up the first Scottish child guidance clinic.

In 1940, he moved to Moray House College of Education, Edinburgh , where he held the posts of Deputy Director of Studies (1940-1951), Deputy Director of Studies (1951-1959), and Principal (1959-1966). Throughout his time at Moray House he was influential in the development of Scottish Teacher Education, and in developing the broader role of the Colleges of Education. Being a founder member of the Scottish Youth Leadership Association he had a particular interest in the training of youth leaders, community workers and social workers, and was responsible for the establishment of the School of Community Studies at Moray House. He died in Edinburgh on 16 February 1971.
