Biographical History

Artist and educator. Graduated from Cleveland Art Institute. Established School of Fine Arts at University of Denver (1929) and Kirkland School of Art (1932). Served as Director of the School of Art University of Denver (1946-1969), and established the Kirkland Gallery in Denver.

Artist and educator Kirkland graduated from Cleveland Art Institute; he established School of Fine Arts at University of Denver (1929) and Kirkland School of Art (1932), served as Director of the School of Art University of Denver (1946-1969), and established the Kirkland Gallery in Denver. Kirkland married Anne Oliphant Olson (1941) widow of Denver artist Albert B. Olson. Olson was born in Montrose, Colo., and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and in Europe. He exhibited at the Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, Denver Art Museum, and other U.S. galleries.
