Biographical History

Portland's Congregation Linath Azedeck was founded as an Orthodox congregation by Eastern Europeans, many of whom had been aided by the Industrial Removal Office (active 1900-1917), which sought to persuade and assist Jewish workers to leave congested cities of the East Coast for cities where smaller Jewish communities existed and a variety of jobs were available.

From the description of Congregation Linath Azedeck records, 1913-1959. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 71129177
