Biographical History
Victor J. Perini was born in New York City in 1889. He began his career as a tool maker in New Jersey and moved to Detroit in 1910. He started working at Ford Motor Company as a toolmaker at the company's Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit, Michigan in April, 1910. He worked his way up to become superintendent of the Motor Building at Ford's Higland Park plant and supervised construction of the Liberty aircraft motor during World War I. In 1922, Perini was assigned to supervise construction of a hydro-electric powerplant at Green Island, New York. In 1924, he was sent to oversee the reorganization of the Ford assembly plant in Manchester, England, and in 1926 he was assigned to Iron Mountain, Michigan to take charge of lumber and sawmill operations. In 1930, Perini was tasked to take over and operate the newly established Ford rubber plantations at Belterra and Fordlandia in Brazil.
