Biographical History

Born to Arabella (Ludlow) and Edward Gould in New York, Francis Lewis Paco Gould (1884-1979) graduated from New York University in 1905. He served in the New York National Guard during World War I before engaging in investment banking and serving as vice president of R. W. Halsey & Company and president of Distributors Guild Inc. Following his retirement in 1932, Gould worked in Boston, Massachusetts, as a wine consultant and importer. In 1948, he married Romilda Romie Peri (1904-1999), and the couple split their time between Switzerland and St. Helena, California. In 1949, Gould founded the public relations program of the Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena and edited its newsletter, Bottles and Bins. In 1972, Gould published an autobiography, My Life with Wine. Following her husband’s death in 1979, Romie published two books about their lives, Con Brio: Romie & Paco (1989) and Paco!: The World and Work of Francis Lewis Gould (1993).
