Biographical History
Frank A. Zabrosky (1933 - ) served as Head of the Archives Service Center and Curator of the Archives of Industrial Society (AIS), as well as in a number of other positions within the University Library System from 1958 to 1995. In December of 1968 Zabrosky began his career as an archivist with an appointment as Curator of AIS, a position in which he served until his retirement in 1995.
During his work with the AIS, he built up much of the current collection from its beginnings in the University of Pittsburgh Department of History and helped to relocate the collection to several destinations, including its present one in the Archives Service Center in Hillman Library.
In addition, Zabrosky taught a six week course through the School of Library and Information Science on the management of modern archives and manuscripts. This course was offered for approximately fourteen years, generally from May to June each summer, and was structured as an introduction to non-traditional information sources. Zabrosky taught the course in a hands-on manner, working with the Special Collections department in the University Library System. The course ended with the introduction of a formal Archival Program into the School of Library Science.
Additional information on Frank Zabrosky, dealing with his personal life and his observations of the University of Pittsburgh and the University Library System, can be found in an oral-history interview completed on May 30, 1997 by Rebecca Abromitis and stored in the University Archives.
