Detroit, Michigan, attorney, son of James Burrill and Sarah Caswell Angell.
Alexis Angell was a professor at the University of Michigan Law school, 1893-1898.
Alexis Angell was born in Providence, Rhode Island, April 26, 1857, the son of James Burrill and Sarah Swoope (Caswell) Angell. James B. Angell became president of the University of Michigan in 1871. Alexis received a A.B. degree for U-M in 1878, an LL.B. in 1880, and completed the LL.D. degree in 1915. He married Fanny C. Cooley, June 6, 1880. They had six children-Sarah C., Thomas C., Alice, James B., Elizabeth H., and Robert C. Alexis began practicing law in Detroit in 1880, and later joined the firms Wells, Angell, Boynton & McMillan, 1892-1902 and Angell, Boynton, McMillan & Bodman, 1902-11. He served U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, July 1, 1911-June 1, 1912. after resigning his judgship he was affiliated as a member of several Detroit law firms: Angell, Boynton, McMillan (Philip H., Bodman & Turner, 1912-14; Angell, Bodman & Turner, 1914-1919; Angell & Turner, 1919-20; Angell, Turner & Dyer, 1920-30; Angell, Turner, Dyer & Meek, 1930-1932.
