Biographical History
Biographical note: The U.S. Attorney General authorized U.S. Marshal Crawley P. Dake to arrest outlaws and restore order to southern Arizona in an April 3, 1888 letter. In the same letter, he was advised of the need to obtain vouchers from deputies for their expenses. In 1884, the government brought suit against Dake to recover $29,000 that had previously been paid to him and that was not subsequently supported by vouchers and receipts. E. P. Clark and several others had been sureties for his bond and the suit sought to recover the money from either Dake or his sureties. On Oct. 5th, 1888, Clark sent $2,500 collected from the sureties and the case was dropped. E. P. Clark was a Prescott businessman.
