Biographical History
The UNM Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) was formed by University President Tom Farer in the spring of 1986 in order to describe, review, and make recommendations for improving all University procedures, practices, and policies. It was chaired by Robert Desiderio, a UNM law professor and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and co-chaired by Student Affairs Vice President Mari-Luci Jaramillo and Graduate School Dean Marc Price. 54 faculty and staff members, 17 students, and 14 community volunteers made up the committee, which was divided into subcommittees on governance, fiscal and budget, student services, athletics, library, and the various colleges of the University. President Farer resigned before the Committee had completed its mission 22 months later, the SPC's final report was received by President Gerald May in early April of 1987.
