Biographical History

Born in Ireland, Baker came to Australia as a child. While she was a school teacher in Victoria, she became acquainted with Joseph Furphy, and encouraged him to write. After his death she did much towards promoting his works. She was awarded the O.B.E. for her services to Australian literature.
