Biographical History

Henry Ford & Son, Ltd. was incorporated on April 17, 1917 with a capitol of 100,000 pounds and stock shares equally divided between Henry, Clara, and Edsel Ford. The purpose of the corporation was to build tractors in Cork, Ireland for the British. When German airplanes started bombing London, England no longer wanted to produce tractors in Ireland, but focused on aircraft manufacturing instead. England still wanted tractors, so Henry Ford agreed to produce tractors at his Dearborn, Michigan factory and ship them to England. To accomplish this he established Henry Ford & Son, Inc. After World War I, Henry Ford & Son, Ltd. resumed tractor production and opened a tractor factory in Cork, Ireland on July 4, 1919. On December 7, 1928, Henry Ford unified all his Western European interests, including Henry Ford & Son, Ltd. into Ford Motor Company, Ltd.
