Biographical History

William Williams was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He served with the military in Pennsylvania and later was connected with the Exchange Bank of Pittsburg. In 1849 he moved to Iowa and stopped briefly in Muscatine before accompanying United States troops westward to establish the post of Fort Clark, which later became Fort Dodge. After troops moved on Williams remained and established the town of Fort Dodge. He was instrumental in enticing many people to settle in Fort Dodge and Webster County, Iowa.
