Biographical History
Robert Brandes, a Lake Travis property owner, took part in the negotiations that surrounded the formation of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP): a program to coordinate federal, state and local interests in the management of endangered species. During the 1990s, Brandes attended and regularly spoke at meetings of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan Executive Steering Committee, asserting that the rights of property owners like himself were being infringed by environmental extremism and improper government regulation. He also testified at state and federal legislative hearings, gave news interviews, and maintained a wide correspondence on environmental and land management issues. In addition to these activities, Robert Brandes sold and traded collectible Western belt buckles and related memorabilia.
