Biographical History
Abishai M. Dickson (1803-1836), an Alabama native, joined the Alabama Red Rovers in response to the events of the Texas Revolution and was killed in the Goliad massacre. His widow, Ann Margaret Lucas Dickson, and their children moved to Texas to claim land due Dickson for his military service. Ann Margaret Dickson married John Sutherland, a participant at the Battle of the Alamo, in Colorado County in 1841.
