Earl Dewitt Hutto was born in Midland City, Alabama, on May 12, 1926. He attended Dale County public schools, received his bachelor's degree from Troy State University in 1949, and did graduate work in broadcasting at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois, in 1951. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946, worked as sports director and president of radio stations, 1954-1974; was owner of an advertising agency, 1973-1979, was elected to the.
Florida House of Representatives in 1972, and reelected in 1974 and 1976. He was also elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-sixth and to the seven succeeding Congresses, January 3, 1979-January 3, 1995. He was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fourth Congress. Hutto served on the following Florida House of Representatives committees: Armed Services Committee; and its subcommittees, Subcommittee on Readiness (chairman); Subcommittee on Seapower and Critical Materials.
