Biographical History

Through the desires and dedication of a few families of Lutheran heritage, Christ the King Lutheran became part of the Christian community late in 1960. They called upon the ULCA for assistance, and a newly ordained pastor and mission developer, William I. Brooks, came on July 1, 1961. The first worship service was held on August 20, 1961 with 117 in attendance, meeting in the Masonic Temple. The learning experiences of a mission church were often confusing and humorous, from the shuffling of chairs from Church School tables to placement for worship, and the choirs efforts to create an atmosphere of reverence as its assembled amidst the pots and pans of the Temple Kitchen. The congregation was organized on April 15, 1962 with 75 charter members and a baptized membership of 1922. A new parsonage was built in 1964. The present facility was constructed on a five acre site and dedicated on September 19, 1965.
