Biographical History
The Kansas Attorney General's Office is a constitutional office created in 1861, the year that Kansas gained statehood. The Kansas Attorney General serves as the state's top law enforcement and legal officer. The office represents the state in legal affairs and the citizens of the state through its various divisions, boards and agencies. The Attorney General is elected at the November general election in even numbered years. The Bureau of Investigation, which was created in 1939, was placed under the Attorney General's supervision. In 1951, the Attorney General was made a member of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Pension Board. [Kansas State Publications Archival Collection.
