Biographical History
Louis Joseph Vance, born Boston, graduated Harvard 1854 and served in United States Navy, North Atlantic Squadron during the Civil War. Practiced in Boston for 20 years then moved to Kansas City in 1887. Architect of numerous buildings connected with Harvard, and many public libraries and other public buildings throughout the United States. President of American Institute of Architects in 1898, Court of Honor at Chicago World's Fair, author of Greek Lines and Other Essays as well as numerous papers, and translator of Viollet-Le-Duc's Discourses on Architecture.
