International evangelical congress; announced in August 1972 by Billy Graham and convened July 15-25, 1974 with approximately 4,000 participants (and observers, press and guests) in Lausanne Switzerland as a follow-up to 1966 World Congress on Evangelism in Berlin; intended to provide for strategic planning, inspiration and fellowship; consisted of plenary sessions, Bible studies, evangelistic methods demonstrations, small group discussions, reports, an evangelistic meeting, and signing of Congress covenant; executive staff included Don Hoke as director, Paul Little as associate director, Leighton Ford as chairman; A.J. Dain as planning committee chairman; 164-member board of convenors was the governing body; funded by gifts and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association; selection of Continuation Committee begun at Congress; also known as the Lausanne Congress.
