Biographical History

Charles H. Cheney was considered the first city planning pioneer of Calif. Born in 1884, Cheney graduated from University of California, Berkeley, in 1905 and studied in Paris, 1907-1910, before working in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. He served as a consultant for many Calif. cities, including Berkeley, Long Beach, Fresno, Palo Alto, Alameda, Los Angeles, and Palos Verdes Estates. Along with memberships on many planning commissions and boards, he was also secretary of the Calif. Conference on City Planning, 1914-1928.
