David Mamet, playwright.
First presented on WNUR radio in Chicago, Ill., on Mar. 4, 1985. It was, however, written as a stage play.
Born in Chicago in 1947, Mamet is an American playwright, poet, novelist, screenwriter, and director. He began his writing career during his studies at Goddard College in Vermont, and has been a prolific author, publishing more than fifty works since 1977. He has written screenplays for over two dozen films, including Wag the Dog, The Edge, Hoffa, and the movie adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize winning play Glengarry Glen Ross. He also is the director of House of Games, The Spanish Prisoner, The Winslow Boy, and State and Main.
David Mamet, born November 30, 1947 in Chicago, is an American playwright, screenwriter, director, actor, producer and author. First gaining national recognition in 1977 for American Buffalo, Mamet is a prolific writer for both stage and screen known for his stylized use of dialog and rhythmic language. Mamet has received numerous honors including an Obie for Distinguished Playwriting (1976), the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Glengarry Glen Ross (1984), and multiple Tony and Academy Award nominations.
