Biographical History

Robert William Paulson (b. 1915, Burlington, Washington), U.S. Air Force officer, entered the U.S. Army as an aviation cadet in 1940 after graduating from university. He received his commission and completed pilot training in 1941. In 1944 he served with the 410th Bombardment Group stationed in France. He became assistant director of communications, Office of the Director of Operations, Far East Air Forces, in 1950, until 1953 when assigned to the 9th Air Force as director of communications-electronics. Later in the 1950s, he served as group commander, then executive officer, 461st Tactical Bombardment Wing, and director of communications-electronics for the 18th and 12th Air Force. After an assignment as director of plans and programs, Defense Communications Agency, he served with the U.S. Strike Command, as commander of the European-African-Middle Eastern Communications Area, and as deputy chief of staff for communications-electronics, U.S. Air Forces in Europe. General Paulson became commander, Air Force Communications Service, in 1967 and retired in 1969.
